Sketchbook...
My sketchbook is not fixed or correct, it's experimental. It can be a playground, changing, dynamic, gestural, a continual response to the world around me.
Here, by markmaking and sometimes collage, I notice and record space, shapes, light, objects, and textures. I analyse and dissect, but also allow for abstraction and interpretation, letting the work drift between observation and imagination. It’s where I search for the spirit of the landscape, translating my surroundings into marks, colours, and compositions.
Through play and experimentation, I test what feels effective and alive — and what doesn’t — allowing ideas to grow, shift, surprise and excite, leading hopefully, but not always to further development.
